Donation of land to Valley of the Tetons Library brings new building closer to reality

Valley of the Tetons Library in Driggs is one step closer to getting a new building thanks to a generous land donation from local landowner Stefan Merriam. The half-acre parcel of land located on the corner of Harper Avenue and Main Street is the perfect location for the new library, meeting the criteria the district was looking for. The current library space is rented and too small for the needs of the community, prompting the district to seek a larger, more suitable location. The new library is expected to be between 12,000 to 15,000 square feet, allowing for expansion of the physical collection and more space for programs and events. Funding for the new building will come from a mixture of grants, donations, and a capital campaign. The district has already applied for a grant through Congressman Mike Simpson’s office and is awaiting the results. The library is currently in the planning and strategy phase, with construction timelines still to be determined. The district is grateful for Merriam’s generosity and excited for what the future holds.
