RIGBY — The Jefferson County Fair in Rigby will be a hub of exciting activities next week, showcasing over 300 kids as they proudly display their animals. Running from Monday, Aug. 12 to Saturday, Aug. 17, the fair will feature events such as sheep, poultry, and goat shows, as well as a rodeo, a death-by-chocolate event, and a livestock market sale. The fair provides a platform for kids aged 11 to 18 to demonstrate their hard work in raising animals like sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, and rabbits. Participants must be knowledgeable about the specific species they showcase, with judges asking questions about animal care and health. The market sale at the fair allows kids to earn money by selling their animals, reflecting the valuable business skills they learn through the process. Last year, over $600,000 was generated in the market sale for the kids. Additionally, new this year is a dance event on Thursday night for the kids to enjoy. Apart from showcasing animals, there will be a commercial building with various exhibits like vegetables, fruits, canning items, quilts, paintings, and pictures, all competing for ribbons. The fairgrounds are free to visit, with separate admission fees for specific events.
