NASA is currently deciding on how and when to bring two astronauts, Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, back home from the International Space Station. The pair has been stuck at the station for more than two months after issues were detected with the Boeing Starliner spacecraft they traveled on in early June. What was supposed to be a week-long journey has turned into an extended stay due to technical issues.
Engineers and technical experts at NASA are analyzing data from tests to determine the best course of action for bringing the astronauts back to Earth. A final decision is expected to be made by the end of the month, after a formal review process is completed. One option being considered is to bring Wilmore and Williams back on the Starliner, while another possibility is to use one of SpaceX’s Dragon capsules for their return trip.
The decision will likely be made based on safety, technical considerations, and spacecraft availability. NASA is working diligently to ensure the safe return of the astronauts and will make a final decision once all data has been thoroughly analyzed.
