The first-ever Greater Tater Tot Festival was held at Sandy Downs in Idaho Falls, with vendors and community members coming together to raise awareness and funds to end child abuse. The festival celebrated the history of the tater tot and featured a nonprofit called Protect Your Tots, founded by Leslie and Steve Grigg, the sons of Ore-Ida founders. The event aimed to raise funds for a new Family Justice Center to support victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. Attendees were given a complimentary basket of tater tots and learned about protecting children from internet crimes and bullying. Kids Safety Crusader CJ Scarlet spoke at the event, emphasizing the importance of teaching children to speak up in difficult situations. The festival also featured organizations like Champs Heart, Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office, and Idaho Falls Police, as well as Idaho Steel showcasing the tater tot making process. Idaho Steel spokeswoman Andrea Todd highlighted the economic impact of the tater tot on Idaho and the world. The event was a way to express gratitude for the tater tot and its deep history, while also raising awareness about child abuse prevention. Organizers hope to host similar events in the future and make a significant donation to support victims in a safe and comfortable environment.
