One person has died after a fishing boat was struck by lightning and capsized on the Bear River in Corinne, Utah. The incident occurred early Sunday morning, with three men thrown into the water when the boat was hit. Only two men made it to shore, while the third man went underwater and did not resurface.
Multiple agencies, including the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office, Box Elder County Search and Rescue, and other departments, were involved in search efforts. The body of the third man was located around 5:30 a.m. using sonar and divers. The identities of those involved have not been released.
The two survivors were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Chief Deputy Sheriff Cade Palmer expressed condolences to the friends and family of the deceased and thanked the professionals and volunteers involved in the search and recovery process.
