Former NFL lineman Gosder Cherilus was arrested after allegedly urinating on another passenger during a Boston-to-Dublin flight, causing the plane to return to Logan International Airport. Cherilus pleaded not guilty to charges of disorderly conduct, disturbing a flight crew, and resisting arrest. The incident occurred on Delta Flight 154, which had left Logan 3 1/2 hours late before turning back. State police and border patrol agents confronted Cherilus upon landing. He was arrested after becoming irate and uncooperative. Delta confirmed the incident and stated they have zero tolerance for unlawful behavior. Cherilus blamed his behavior on a bad reaction to sleep medication. He played nine seasons in the NFL and was a part of the Detroit Lions, Indianapolis Colts, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In college, Cherilus was a second-team Atlantic Coast Conference pick and protected quarterback Matt Ryan. Ryan went on to have a successful NFL career. Cherilus apologized for his actions and stated that his behavior was not representative of his character. The situation caused a delay for passengers and the flight crew. Cherilus did not answer reporters’ questions but expressed remorse for his actions.
