A 32-year-old hunter in Alaska was mauled by a brown bear and shot while trying to fend it off on the Kenai Peninsula, southwest of Anchorage. The hunter and his companion opened fire on the bear, resulting in the man being shot in the leg. It is unclear who fired the shot that hit him. The bear was killed during the incident. The mauling took place in a remote area off the Resurrection Pass trail, and the circumstances leading to it are unknown. The injured hunter was airlifted to an Anchorage hospital for treatment.
