August’s rare Blue Supermoon wowed stargazers around the world as the first of four supermoons this year. The supermoon phenomenon occurs when the moon is closest to the Earth and full, causing it to appear larger and brighter than usual. This particular supermoon was especially unique as it also fell on a Blue Moon, which happens when there are two full moons in a month or four in a season.
People were able to catch a glimpse of this spectacular sight late into the night, with NASA confirming that the Super Blue Moon could still be seen until early Wednesday morning. Those who missed it need not worry, as there are three more supermoons to look forward to this year. The next one will coincide with a partial lunar eclipse on September 18, followed by another on October 17 which will be the closest approach of the year. The final supermoon will be on November 15.
The beauty of the Blue Supermoon was captured in stunning images from various locations around the world, including Istanbul, Copenhagen, Berlin, Madrid, Paris, and Nicosia. This celestial event has amazed both photographers and astronomy enthusiasts, setting the stage for more lunar spectacles in the coming months.
