Dozens of Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes in southern Gaza Strip, including 11 members of the same family. A total of 33 people were killed in three separate strikes in the city of Khan Younis. Another 17 individuals were killed in a strike on a road south of Khan Younis, while at least five died in a strike on a tuk-tuk east of the city. Additionally, 10 bodies were recovered from a residential block west of Khan Younis. The Israeli military said it was looking into the reports but had no immediate comment.
Preparations were underway for high-level cease-fire talks in Egypt, with Hamas sending a delegation to Cairo to meet with Egyptian and Qatari officials. Meanwhile, the U.S. was leading negotiations between Israel and Hamas to bridge the gaps between the two sides, particularly regarding Israel’s insistence on maintaining control of strategic corridors in Gaza.
Pressure was mounting for a cease-fire as fears grew over a wider regional conflict following targeted killings of militant leaders. President Biden had called for urgent action to reach a cease-fire and secure the release of hostages held by Hamas. Major differences remained over control of the Philadelphi and Netzarim corridors, with Hamas demanding a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza. Israel, on the other hand, insisted on retaining control of these corridors. Hamas’ position remained unchanged, calling for the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
