EU Commission Celebrates Ukraine’s State Flag Day with 30-Metre Flag Display


A 30-meter-long Ukrainian flag was unfurled outside the European Commission building in Brussels on Friday to celebrate the country’s State Flag Day. The ceremony was attended by representatives of the European Commission, the European Parliament, the diplomatic corps, and several Ukrainians in traditional dress.

European Parliament Vice-President Sophie Wilmès expressed the Parliament’s steadfast support for Ukraine, dedicating the ceremony to the courage shown by Ukrainians every day. EU Commissioner Thierry Breton condemned ongoing attacks on civilians by Russia and reiterated the EU’s support for Ukraine through the Joint Security Commitment signed in June.

As Ukraine celebrated Independence Day on August 24, the Ukrainian flag was prominently displayed in Brussels. The Station Europe visitors center and the European Commission building were illuminated in the colors of the Ukrainian flag to symbolize freedom and resistance against aggression.

The European Commission declared its solidarity with Ukraine, stating that Europe will stand by Ukraine during the war and in the aftermath. The ceremony and flag display served as a demonstration of support for Ukraine and a reminder of the ongoing conflict that the country faces. The event highlighted the strong ties between Ukraine and the EU, emphasizing the commitment to stand together in the face of challenges.
