Madison Bobcats Dominate Bonneville Bees in Season Opener
In a statement win on Friday, the Madison High School Bobcats started their season strong with a 41-6 victory over the Bonneville Bees. Head coach Chandler Rhoads had emphasized setting the tone early, establishing homefield advantage, and being physically dominant, and his team delivered.
The Bobcats wasted no time in asserting their dominance, scoring 34 first-half points to put the game out of reach. Quarterback Hazen Torgerson led the offensive charge with multiple rushing touchdowns and a passing touchdown to Baden Wheeler. The defense also played a crucial role, forcing turnovers and shutting down the Bees’ offense.
Bonneville coach Shane Stephenson admitted that his team struggled with opening day jitters and fundamental mistakes against a strong Madison team. However, he remained optimistic about the Bees’ ability to bounce back and improve moving forward.
Despite a highlight play from Bonneville in the third quarter, Madison’s strong performance continued throughout the game. The victory sets a positive tone for the Bobcats as they look ahead to their next matchup against Hillcrest, while Bonneville will face defending state champion Bishop Kelly in their next game.
