Russia has continued its missile and drone attacks on Ukraine for a second straight day, resulting in the deaths of at least five people. The central city of Kryvyi Rih saw the destruction of a hotel and the loss of two lives, while three people died in drone attacks in the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has vowed retaliation and urged allies to consider joint air defense operations and provide long-range weapons capabilities. The Ukrainian air force reported downing five out of 10 incoming Russian missiles and 60 out of 81 drones in Tuesday’s attacks. Additionally, 10 drones were lost track of, with one crossing into Belarusian territory.
The Russian Ministry of Defence claimed to have carried out a high-precision weapons strike on Ukraine overnight. Despite Moscow’s denial of targeting civilians, thousands have been killed since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022.
In the capital city of Kyiv, all incoming targets aimed at the city were shot down by air defenses, with no casualties reported. However, two civilians may still be trapped under the rubble of the hotel in Kryvyi Rih, and five others were injured. Furthermore, three people were injured in the Zaporizhzhia region and four were hurt in a missile strike in the northeastern Kharkiv region.
The ongoing attacks have intensified the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, causing devastation and loss of life. The international community continues to monitor the situation closely, with calls for peace and a cessation of hostilities.
