The Vandal women’s soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss to Washington State, with Margo Schoesler scoring her second goal of the season and Paula Flores making a career-high ten saves. Despite the statistics showing WSU’s dominance with a 24-1 shot advantage, Idaho held their own in the physical game. Seven yellow cards were handed out, with Scholeser and Hannah Alfaro-Black of Idaho receiving two each.
Washington State took the lead in the 29th minute, but Idaho equalized in the second half through a goal by Schoesler. However, the Cougars secured the win with another goal from a scrambled corner kick. Flores put up a strong defense with a total of ten saves, but WSU’s relentless attacking paid off in the end.
Idaho finished the weekend with a 1-1 record and improved to 2-2 overall. They will return home to the P1FCU Kibbie Dome for their next game against IU Indianapolis. The Vandal’s performance in the game showed resilience and determination despite the statistical advantage held by their opponents. The team will look to build on this performance as they continue in the season.
