After 13 years of business, The Houndstooth Pub in the Garment District is closing its doors for good on Saturday. General Manager Nicholas Cohen reflected on the memories made at the traditional Irish pub, where celebrities like Courtney Cox and Ed Sheeran were often spotted enjoying a pint. Despite the bittersweet farewell, Nick explained that the closure is a reality of the current economy.
The pub, known for its good drinks, food, and conversation, became a popular spot in the Garment District over the years. Houndstooth’s success followed the opening of its “sister bar,” Stitch, in the same area. However, recent challenges, including a decline in summer business and broader issues in Hell’s Kitchen, have made it difficult for the pub to stay afloat.
As the pub bids farewell, Nick plans to focus on Stitch and is grateful for the 13 great years at Houndstooth. He expressed his gratitude to the staff and patrons who made memories at the bar, acknowledging that change is inevitable. Despite the closure, Nick hopes to remain in the Garment District where he has deep connections, looking forward to what the next chapter may bring.
