Jason Eck, Idaho football coach, overcame obstacles to awaken the ‘sleeping giant’ in Moscow.

Jason Eck, the head coach of the Idaho Vandals football team, has had an unpredictable journey to his current position. Despite his mother’s wishes for him to pursue a career in law, he followed in his father’s footsteps as a college basketball coach and eventually found success in the football coaching world. His authoritative and genuine nature has contributed to his early success at Idaho, with 16 wins in his first two seasons. Eck’s vision for the program has been recognized by his peers, who see his potential as a head coach.
His nomadic existence as an assistant coach under 12 different head coaches has informed his coaching philosophy, emphasizing the importance of adapting to change and finding new solutions. Eck’s focus on recruiting local talent and developing players who are motivated by more than just money has paid off for the Vandals, who have been picked to finish third in the Big Sky preseason poll.
Despite the challenges of moving around and building a new program, Eck credits his wife, Kimberly, for being a constant source of support and stability. With his son, Jaxton, following in his footsteps as a student-athlete on the Vandals football team, the Eck family tradition may continue with another generation of coaches in the making. As Eck continues to lead the Vandals towards success, his coaching style emphasizes the fundamentals of hard work, toughness, and consistency. With his experience and vision for the program, Idaho football appears to be awakening as a force to be reckoned with in the FCS Division.
