A climber was rescued from Hyndman Peak in Idaho after falling and injuring his leg while attempting to climb the 12, 000-foot mountain in the Pioneer Mountain Range. The incident occurred on August 24th, and the Wyoming Search and Rescue team was called in to assist after local teams were unable to reach the injured climber in the rugged terrain. A helicopter was used to short-haul the man off the mountain to an ambulance waiting at a trailhead.
Hyndman Peak is the ninth tallest mountain in Idaho, standing at 12,012 feet. Ketchum, where the incident occurred, is located northeast of Ketchum and is about a 150-mile drive from Boise. Short-hauling, a rescue technique using a helicopter with a rope attached, was utilized to safely transport the injured climber to safety.
The climber’s identity and condition have not been disclosed, but the successful rescue highlights the importance of being prepared and taking proper precautions while engaging in outdoor activities in remote locations.
