People in warned areas were urged to seek shelter at community centers. The typhoon, with sustained winds of 89 mph, caused a landslide in Gamagori that buried a house, resulting in three deaths. One person on the island of Amami was knocked down by a wind gust while riding a motorcycle.

Officials are worried about the potential for floods and landslides as the typhoon moves up the Japanese archipelago. Hundreds of domestic flights were canceled, and train services were suspended.
