A fire that started in an uncontained field quickly spread to engulf several firework stands on Bellin Road in Idaho Falls on Saturday afternoon. The Idaho Falls Fire Department responded to the blaze, ultimately sending four engines, three brush trucks, a ladder truck, a water tender, and a battalion chief to the scene. As firefighters arrived, they worked to extinguish the flames on the firework stands, surrounding field, trees, pallets, and a shed. The fire led to thick smoke filling the sky, prompting Idaho Falls Police to assist with traffic control by temporarily closing Bellin Road at Broadway and Eldorado Street. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported to firefighters or civilians, and no nearby homes were damaged in the blaze.
Idaho Falls Fire Department Battalion Chief Mark Pitcher emphasized the importance of caution in dry conditions to prevent fires from spreading. The cause of the fire is currently unknown. The stands that caught fire were empty at the time and located near the Idaho National Laboratory Park and Ride Broadway lot. The fire resulted in the temporary closure of Bellin Road between Broadway and Eldorado Streets, but the road reopened after the situation was under control. Firefighters are currently working to extinguish hot spots and mop up the remaining fire remnants. For more updates and news stories, visit https://www.eastidahonews.com/.
