Potential Tropical Cyclone Six has formed over the Gulf of Mexico, with tropical storm watches issued for parts of Mexico. The system is expected to become a tropical storm on Monday and likely strengthen to a hurricane by midweek as it moves north along the western coast of the Gulf. Tropical storm watches have been issued for parts of northeastern Mexico and southern Texas, with additional watches or warnings possible for areas near the southern Texas and Louisiana coasts. The system is currently south of the Rio Grande and moving northwest at 5 mph. It is forecast to move offshore of the northern Gulf Coast of Mexico through Tuesday and approach Louisiana and Upper Texas on Wednesday. The storm is expected to bring heavy rain and the risk of flash flooding from northeastern Mexico to coastal Texas and Louisiana, with rainfall totals of 4 to 8 inches and up to 12 inches possible in some areas. Minor coastal flooding is also possible in Mexico. The hurricane center warns of the potential for life-threatening storm surge and damaging winds for portions of the Upper Texas and Louisiana coastlines beginning Tuesday night.
