An Ada County judge has issued a death warrant for Thomas Creech, Idaho’s longest-serving death row prisoner, setting his execution for Nov. 13. Creech, 74, survived a botched execution earlier this year when prison officials couldn’t find a suitable vein for the lethal injection. He has been on death row for nearly 50 years and has been served with his 13th death warrant. Creech’s attorneys are fighting to stop the execution, arguing that he has already experienced cruel and unusual punishment. Idaho plans to use a central line IV for future executions, a change from the previous method. Creech, who has a history of multiple murders and is considered a serial killer, is set to be the first execution in Idaho in over a decade. The state is moving forward with the execution despite objections from Creech’s legal team and concerns about the previous botched attempt. The Idaho Department of Correction has not commented further on the upcoming execution and is facing criticism for its handling of Creech’s case. Creech believes that he is already dead and living in the afterlife, and his legal team is fighting to stop his execution.
