Tad Fujioka, a 50-year-old hunter from Sitka, Alaska, was found dead after an apparent bear attack while on a deer hunting trip. Alaska State Troopers were called after Fujioka failed to return, and his remains were discovered the next day. The investigation pointed to a fatal bear mauling as the cause of his death. Sitka is a city with a population of about 8,400 in the Alaska panhandle, southwest of Juneau. The specific type of bear was not identified, but Alaska is home to black bears, brown bears (including grizzlies), and polar bears. The state has around 100,000 black bears and 30,000 brown bears, with a smaller population of polar bears that are considered threatened and typically found farther north.
