Former Idaho assistant Thomas Ford has been named the university’s 37th Head Football Coach. Ford, who spent the 2022-2023 seasons as Idaho’s special teams coordinator & running backs coach, helped lead the team to success in both areas. He also coached at Oregon State in 2024, overseeing a strong season for the Beavers’ rushing attack. Ford expressed his excitement to return to Idaho and continue the program’s tradition of excellence set by his predecessor.
Ford brings a wealth of coaching experience, including a successful tenure as the head coach at Simon Fraser University, where he was named the 2018 GNAC Coach of the Year. He also had a career as a professional indoor football player, winning a championship with the Tri-Cities Fever in 2005.
In a press conference, Ford emphasized his deep connection to Idaho and his commitment to building on the team’s recent success. He expressed gratitude for the support he has already received from fans, alumni, and current players.
