A man in Austin, Texas was charged with intoxication manslaughter after a wreck involving over a dozen vehicles on Interstate 35 resulted in the death of five people – three adults, a child, and an infant. Eleven others were injured and taken to hospitals. Solomun Weldekeal Araya, 37, was charged with five counts of intoxication manslaughter and two counts of intoxication assault. The circumstances that led to the crash have not been detailed by police, who are still early in their investigation. The southbound lanes of I-35 were closed following the crash, and reopened around 1 p.m. the next day. The collision was described as “very large and very complex” by a police officer.
