Idaho Track and Field Opens Season Strong at Spokane Sports Showcase
The Idaho Vandals started their 2025 season on a high note at the Spokane Sports Showcase, with Katja Pattis winning the 3,000-meter run and the team scoring eight top-six finishes. The highly competitive event featured teams from Big 10, Pac-12, ACC, Mountain West, WCC, and Big Sky conferences.
Pattis clocked a time of 9:54.57 in the 3K, winning the event by over three seconds. Freshman Jesse Redding also performed well, finishing fourth with a time of 10:10.38. Sam Fulbright claimed second place in the mile, while the men’s 4×400 team finished second with a time of 3:22.2.
In the field events, Cami Cvitkovich impressed in her collegiate debut, securing a fourth-place finish in the high jump with a height of 1.72m. The meet marked the start of the season for the Vandals under new head coach Tracy Hellman, who expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance.
Looking ahead, Hellman emphasized the importance of continual improvement as the team prepares for the Big Sky championships. The Vandals will host their home invitational, the Lauren McCluskey Memorial, next weekend at the Lauren McCluskey Track inside the P1FCU Kibbie Dome.
Overall, Idaho’s strong showing at the Spokane Sports Showcase sets a solid foundation for the rest of the season, as they aim to build on their early success and compete in front of their home fans next week.
